Four documents relaying Papal instructions to Francisco García Diego y Moreno, Bishop of California, 1840 Apr 27.

Four documents dated April 27, 1840 relating to requests made by Francisco García Diego y Moreno to Pope Gregory XVI in connection with his duties as Bishop of the new diocese of California. Two grant permission to deputize twelve pro-synodal judges in place of those customarily elected by the diocesan synod; two grant the new bishop permission to relieve the indigent and priests from certain religious obligations when circumstances make it impossible to meet them. All four documents are signed by Cardinal P. Polidorius.
